Leptiminus (Tunisia)

Kaart Leptiminus klein

This harbour was located near the present city of Lamta on the east coast of Tunisia. The city was called Leptis Minor to distinguish it from Leptis Magna in Libya.

The emperor Trajan made the city a colonia. The port was of considerable importance and had its own mint. The harbour had a mole ending in a large platform, a combination found only in Africa Proconsularis. It was needed because the sea near the coast was too shallow.
